Great weekend. Anil, Ferrell, and myself headed up to Seattle to pickup the last of Anil's stuff. Garrett was heading up that way with his family, so he rode down with us.
Once we hit Seattle on Friday afternoon, we dropped by Anil's old pad to bum a place to stay for the night, then went over to Brad's house. Very cool house, with a great view, and with about as many computers as you'd expect. After visting with Brad for a while we headed into Seattle in seach of food. We went by a mexican place that Brad recommended, but they were closed, so we ended up eating at a good Indian place down the street. We finished off the evening by roaming around downtown Seattle, and grabbing some coffee. There are way too many coffee houses there. One chain, called Seattle's Best, had three on the same block. Crazy.
Garrett had to meet up with his family around 10:00pm, so after coffee we took him to their hotel, in Renton, just south of Seattle. On the way back into town, we noticed signs on I-5 saying "North - Vancouver B.C." This was enough to get us goofing off an speaking in bad canadian accents, and before long we had decided that going to Canada sounded fun. But first, we had to get some sleep, so we headed to Anil's old pad and crashed.
We woke up at 8:00, headed to IHOP for some breakfast, and then hit the road. The trip up to the boarder was about 2 hours, and through some beautiful country. We had to wait in line at the boarder for quite a while, but got through with no problems. Once we hit Vancouver, we had some lunch and then started looking for a fairly cheap hotel. We wanted to stay somewhere downtown, so there weren't all that many cheap places. Fortunatly, we found a double room for $119 Canadian, not bad at all for the location.
Once we got settled in, we hit the town. Vancouver is a great city, very laid back. And the archetecture is very cool, all glass, and intersting designes. We checked out the waterfront, watched the ships go by for a while, then headed for the commercial, touristy part of town. I don't know if there is something in the water in Canada or what, but there were beautiful women all over the place. We started to get hungry again around 7:00, so we started looking for a place to eat. There were quite a few places that looked good, but also spendy, and we were trying to go cheap at this point. We ended up at a healthy/organic grocery store, and picked up some sandwiches, as well as a pineapple. I don't really know why, but it just looked good, and it sure was. We sat at a table on the street eating pineapple...kinda funny that we go to Canada and end up eating pineapple, but it was good food and good times.
Woke up this morning at around 9:00, packed our things, had some breakfast at the hotel's restaurant, did some last minute soveniere shopping, then headed out of town. The majority of today was spent driving home, through some heavy rain. We stopped back in Seattle to load Anil's things, then had some lunch at a good Thai place. Rolled back into P-town at around 9:00.
All in all, a fantastic weekend. There are a lot of great moments that would take way too long to mention, but the trip was a blast, and the weekend seemed to last a week, which made things even better. New sites, new sounds, new experiences, old friends. Can't beat that.
